Located in the southern part of the United States, Virginia has a culture that is profoundly enriched in the colonial era yet has blended modernistic features with its present culture. The areas of the economy that are driving factors include governmental affairs, military, farming, and various business ventures. Additionally, the healthcare industry is a force as there are approximately 100 major hospitals throughout the entire state. As a result, the healthcare industry is always in search of additional help from nurses which means there are lots of nursing schools in Virginia to choose from.

Nursing Education in Virginia

When it comes to the number of colleges and universities in the state of Virginia, there are nearly 200 to choose from. Although not every single college will be discussed in this section, a few noteworthy colleges are the University of Virginia, the College of William & Mary, James Madison University, and several others.

All schools have full accreditation and offer traditional degree programs at the associate, master, bachelor, Ph.D., and doctoral levels. Additionally, aside from receiving financial aid, there are a wide variety of varying scholarships nursing students can apply for. As it pertains to the wide selection of nursing degree programs, many programs will include hands-on learning.

In addition to taking a required state test in order to obtain a nursing license, the state of Virginia also requires a federal background check for all nurses seeking employment. It is believed that by the year 2030 LPN and RN positions will increase by approximately 30% with an approximated salary of about $80,000 per year.

Regarding potential employment locations, many of the nurses who have graduated can apply at places that include the Central Virginia Training Center, Inova Fairfax Hospital, the CW Medical Center as well as several other healthcare facilities that include doctor's offices and urgent care centers.
